ORAN STAINBROOK

Oran Stainbrook
(Alex Feretti)

Oran Stainbrook is an artist, designer, builder, actor, and founder of the Rural Development Group Recollab. Growing up in Utah and rural Nevada, the descendant of a long line of underground miners and laborers, Oran was a first generation college graduate, earning a degree in architecture from Portland State University. He went on to study biotecture and permaculture, then was accepted into a dual Master’s program for city planning and landscape architecture at UC Berkeley, but dropped out after the first semester due to the high cost of the program and crippling student loan debt burden. After spending some time working with Habitat for Humanity San Francisco as a construction foreman in their Neighborhood Revitalization Program, Oran founded Recollab out of a desire to initiate experimental collaborative real estate and land development projects. Between films and acting work, he can be found swinging a hammer and tending to the garden at The Store – Recollab’s creative retreat in the high-mountain desert of central Utah.
